Faculty of Classics Alumni Day Saturday 25th March 2023

Registration is now open for this free to attend event.

There will be a series of academic talks on current research in the faculty, including:

  • Professor Wolfgang de Melo
    "Philological answers to modern questions: how do Latin and other languages assign gender?"
  • Dr Roel Konijnendijk "Come and Get Them: Herodotus on the Fighting at Plataea"
  • Dr Llewelyn Morgan "A wonderful power to unite nations": a Latin-language newspaper in late-nineteenth-century Europe
  • Dr Leah Lazar
    Being Greek under the Persian Empire: New Evidence from Western Turkey.
  • Dr Timothy Penn
    “Playing with the past: Roman board games in society”

Dr Thomas Mannack will give a talk on ‘Vases, Beazley and the Beazley Archive’, followed by a unique opportunity to tour the Classical Art Research Centre (CARC)

We are also delighted to announce that Dr Helen Eastman, Theatre and Opera Director, Playwright and Artistic Director of Live Canon will give a talk on her production of the powerful 1904 Ukrainian version of Cassandra, which premiered in London. 

While in Oxford why not go along in the evening to the North Wall Arts Centre, Summertown, Oxford where Cassandra is showing from 7:30pm.  More information and tickets are available here

A light buffet lunch will be provided, followed by more talks on current research in the faculty.

The day will conclude around 16:45 followed by a drinks Reception.
