Professor Peter Thonemann elected Fellow of the British Academy

The Faculty of Classics would like to congratulate Professor Peter Thonemann on his recent election as a Fellow of the British Academy.

Professor Thonemann said

"I am deeply touched, and honoured, to have been elected as a Fellow of the British Academy. The Academy plays a crucial role as a beacon and advocate for scholarship in the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences in the UK; at a time when many of our Classics departments are under threat of cuts or closure, the support which the Academy provides to scholars in the field, particularly junior and precariously situated academics, is more important than ever. I hugely look forward to contributing to the Academy’s mission"

The British Academy is a fellowship of around 1,400 leading national and international academics elected for their distinction in the humanities and social sciences.

Each year, the British Academy elects to its Fellowship up to 52 outstanding UK-based scholars who have achieved academic distinction as reflected in scholarly research activity and publication.
