Milly is a DPhil student in Classical reception (supervisor: Fiona Macintosh), who completed their BA at the University of Leeds and studied Fashion at Bradford Art College. Their thesis charts the trajectory of classically-inspired fashion and costumes in Britian from the Empire period up to the start of the First World War. By approaching clothing as an embodied concept, Milly's thesis explores the meaning that arises from the interaction between clothing and bodies, particularly in relation to dance. Their project asks what it means to move like a Greek across the nineteenth-century. Beyond their thesis, Milly works on ancient and modern textiles as sites of embodied cognition. Alongside their academic work, Milly is also a seamster who spends much of their spare time sewing, draping and designing clothes. Milly co-convenes the Classical Reception research group.
