My DPhil thesis explores how Aristophanic comedy employs proverbial expressions beyond the naturalistic mirroring of folk conversational speech. Drawing on Humour and Sociolinguistic theories, I hope to examine the utilisation of proverbial speech across various dramaturgical aspects and levels, thus contributing to the further understanding of Aristophanes’ theatre of words.

My research interests beyond comedy include Greek tragedy, Greek Lyric poetry, Iambic poetry, Greek epigram, ancient folk narrative culture, ritual and religion.
