Ludovico Oddi

My doctoral dissertation consists of a study on the usage of linguistic forms, words, and constructions which can be found in the extant fragments of Livius Andronicus' Odusia, Nevius' Bellum Poenicum, and Ennius' Annals and are to some extent not common in classical Latin. Several times Livius Andronicus’, Naevius’ and Ennius’ language has stimulated grammarians’ interest due to its particularity and some words have seriously challenged medieval scribes and modern scholars because of their rarity. Moreover, it should always kept in mind how pivotal these three works arise in the development of the Roman epics and of the whole Latin literature.
