I am a second-year MPhil student in Greek and/or Roman History supervised by Dr Aneurin Ellis-Evans and Dr Michele Bianconi. I am interested in the transition in non-Greek cities of Asia Minor from using primarily local, Anatolian languages in inscriptions (though with the occasional use of Greek and Aramaic) to the almost exclusive use of Greek in inscriptions, even while local languages likely continued to be spoken. I hope to explore this question through a close study of the epigraphic cultures of Sardis and Xanthos.
