This research was initiated by a rather simple question: can we study maritime archaeology through epigraphy? Anyone who is interested in either of these fields should know that the short answer to this question is affirmative. By studying the ‘maritime’ epigraphy of the Eastern Mediterranean, one can further enrich our knowledge on the maritime landscape based on the ways it was treated or reflected upon in the inscribed evidence. As the research progresses I am narrowing it down on the Hellenistic Period, the Ptolemaic Kingdom, and Cyprus.
