“Primarily, my research focuses on Xenophon, the polis, and the politeia; how as both author and actor Xenophon interacts with, and theorises about, systems of government, military organisation, and individual responsibility. Of particular interest to my work is the dissonance between what Xenophon frames as an ideal, and what he subsequently believes is a pragmatic or realistic mode of undertaking it. My MPhil here at Oxford looks at one part of this—his Sparta and Spartans.”
