My thesis focuses on synoikism and sympoliteia treaties in the Hellenistic period. Specifically, I want to consider the power dynamics in these interactions and ask whether such treaties were led primarily by the cities involved or by external actors. I will examine the conditions in which these communities were created, and which circumstances most often led to their success or failure, whether social or economic. By examining how these treaties functioned within a larger framework of schemes of institutional cooperation, I intend to create a more thorough understanding of life in the city and consider how the institution persisted and evolved in the face of countervailing external forces.

Beyond this, I have research interests in the Ptolemies, both in Egypt and their overseas possessions; the late Roman republic; Greek epigraphy and numismatics; and ancient and modern philosophy.
