My research reassesses the art of cultural contact zones in Hellenistic and Graeco-Roman times with regards to its relevant archaeological context and historic environment. A crucial part of this approach is interpreting art in a way that is accepting of its multilateral effects and is correctly locating its visual agenda in its corresponding sphere of influence. Thus, I aim to understand the transfer of visual codes between different cultural spheres but also within the Hellenistic Oikoumene itself and to gain new insights on questions of cultural identity and the ‘Other’.

Further research interests of mine lie in Greek numismatics, visual-textual relations (especially ekphrastic texts), mystery cults and funerary archaeology.
