Ariadne Pagoni

My DPhil project focuses on Athens in Hellenistic literature. This includes literary constructions of the physical space of Athens and Attica and literary presentations of Athenian myth and history. My thesis also examines how far Athens remained a hub for literary production and the extent to which Athenian literature remained an active influence on different genres in the Hellenistic period.

I am also interested in epigraphy and have published on Hellenistic mime in Syracuse:

Pagoni, A. (2023), ‘The association of artists of Aphrodite Hilara: two decrees as evidence for an association of mime-artists in Syracuse’, ZPE 228: 171–80.

I am grateful to All Souls and the Arts and Humanities Research Council for supporting my research.

Beyond my DPhil I am Retained Lecturer in Ancient Greek at Exeter College where I teach Greek language and literature.
