I am looking at the use of coinage by imperial usurpers in the 3rd Century to understand how they perceived their own power and how they wished to be viewed by the wider populace. I hope also, through a close study of the coinage, to provide a better understanding of how usurpation occurred and how need for coinage influenced ambitious generals' actions.
