I focus on ancient multilingualism, language mixing, the loss of predominantly unwritten languages under Greek and Roman colonization and their adaptation to the alphabets of the colonizing tongues. I'm also interested more generally in languages with multiple script systems and the development of alphabets in relation to language change, sound change, and contact.
