The book includes the first large-scale comparison of the gods of Homeric epic and Babylonian epic. It provides up-to-date treatments of several Babylonian literary works which are difficult to access for the comparatist, and offers a model for comparisons of poetic technique in pre-modern traditional poetry, as well as for thinking about ancient polytheistic religions.
