I am a third year DPhil specialising in Greek art and archaeology, with a primary interest in Greek vases. My DPhil thesis is an AHRC-funded Collaborative Doctoral Award in partnership with the National Trust, concerning their collection of ancient Greek vases. My particular focus is on the vase collections in three properties – Sudbury Hall (the Children’s Country House), Nostell Priory, and Charlecote Park – for which I am researching their collection histories and suggesting curatorial interventions. My DPhil work expands on my MPhil thesis, which researched Nostell Priory’s Greek vases.
Outside of the university, I work more broadly in the arts and heritage sector, and strive to combine my academic and curatorial practices. I am a member of the Classical Collections Network and the Oxford University Heritage Network and have previously worked with the Ashmolean Museum, the British Museum, the University of Cambridge’s Museum of Classical Archaeology, the Endangered Archaeology of the Middle East and North Africa project (EAMENA), the Lady Margaret Hall Art Collection, and National Historic Ships UK, for whom I wrote their 2021 Climate Change Report, described by The Heritage Alliance as a 'landmark report'. I was also a 2023 member of the British Art Network’s Emerging Curators Group. My academia.edu profile can be found here: https://oxford.academia.edu/AbigailAllan
