The present study offers a detailed presentation and comprehensive analysis of the earliest remains of the Early Iron Age discovered in the area of Oropos in Northern Attica, excavated by the 2nd Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities (Ephorate of Eastern Attica today) in 1985-1986 and the
Archaeological Society at Athens from 1996 to 2011 (see Introduction) (figs 1-3). The focus of the study is on the pottery, since this represents the main body of evidence from this period. The largest and most important assemblage dated to the Protogeometric and Sub-Protogeometric period. This assemblage is the main focus of this book (Chapters I – III) (figs
5-6). The study of a few finds dated to this period and excavated at a short distance along the coast to the West, at the locality of the town of Skala Oropos (discovered at the OSK plot – the plot of the Organisation of School Buildings) are included in an Annex (end of Chapter II) (figs 7-8). Chapter IV
examines a single burial dating to this period which was investigated by the Ephorate in 2006 at the area of Nea Palatia.
