We are currently accepting applications for entry in October 2026. The application deadline will be Wednesday 7 January 2026.

We strongly advise that you contact your referees and order academic transcripts from your university's registry in good time before the application deadline. We may be unable to assess your application if your references, transcripts or other supporting materials are not received on time.

You are strongly encouraged to submit your online application well in advance of the deadline and to use the Graduate Applicant Self Service system to check that your application is complete, allowing yourself plenty of time to rectify any problems such as missing or invalid supporting materials.

All applications are made online via the "How to Apply" tab on the individual course page of the Graduate Admissions website. Please consult the information on the "How to Apply" tab before starting your application. Further details of the application process can be found in the Application Guide.

All postgraduate students in Classics are members of an Oxford College as well as of the University. You may state a college preference on your application form if you wish. Further information about choosing a college may be found here.

After submitting your application, you can use the Graduate Applicant Self Service system to view a PDF of your application, check the status of your supporting materials and references and resend email notifications to your referees.

All applications are assessed by two or more members of academic staff with relevant expertise and experience. The admissions criteria for each programme of study may be found on the relevant course page of the Graduate Admissions website.

Interviews do not automatically form part of the admissions process, although in some circumstances you may be asked to attend an interview (which may be conducted by telephone or online if you are unable to travel to Oxford). Some scholarship schemes require nominees to be interviewed as part of the selection process.

We expect that decisions on applications received by the deadline on Wednesday 7 January 2026  will be communicated to candidates by the end of February 2026.

Successful candidates for funding awards will be notified separately after receiving their offer from the Faculty. Funding decisions are finalised over a period of several weeks after the successful candidates have been informed that they have been offered a place on the course. Most scholarships in Classics are awarded between March and June.

If your application to the Faculty is successful, you will also receive an offer from a college.

If there are any academic conditions attached to your offer, these will be specified in your offer letter from the Faculty. Applicants for entry in October 2026 must submit documentary evidence of their fulfilment of any academic conditions to the Classics Faculty by Friday 14 August 2026. Please contact the Classics Faculty (email: graduate@classics.ox.ac.uk) in good time if you believe that you may have difficulty submitting the necessary documents to us by that date.

Some graduate students will need to apply for a visa to study in the UK. Please see the University website for further information.
