Title: Latin in Imperial Greece

Speaker: Professor Werner Eck

Werner Eck has been a Professor of Ancient History at the University of Cologne since 1979. He was made Emeritus Professor in 2007. Since 1991 he has overseen the Prosopographia Imperil Romani (a dictionary of names containing the biographical data of Roman officials) at the Academy of Berlin, and since 2007 he has been the director of  the Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum. He is co-editor of the Zeitschrift für Papyrologie und Epigraphic as well as the Corpus Inscriptionum Iudaeae/Palaestinae. His research is focused on the history of the Roman Empire, especially during the imperial period. It encompasses administrative history, social history, the Roman army and Roman epigraphy.
