Open Days 2022

Open Day June 2022

Open Day June 2022

On 29 and 30 June 2022 we were delighted to open our doors for the first in-person open days for 2 years.

Planned to coincide with the University of Oxford Open Days, we welcomed over 300 guests into the faculty for a packed series of events including:

  • Classics at Oxford Admissions Talk with Gail Trimble, School Liaison Officer
  • Q&A stands with current students and tutors
  • Taster Lectures:
    • Katherine Clarke - 'The Lively Landscape of Herodotus’ Histories’'
    • Barnaby Taylor - 'Virgil and the aesthetics of scale'
    • Ed Bispham - 'Greeks on the Edge of the World: Wine, Death and Epic at the Dawn of Greek History'

If you were a guest at our open day, thank you for coming! We hope you found it useful and enjoyable.

A heartfelt thank you to all our speakers for the wonderful talks - it is incredibly useful for potential applicants to gain an insight into the topics that they might study here.

Gratitude also to everyone who managed to attend the meet and greet sessions - our guests had so many questions - it was enormously reassuring to hear the answers directly from academics who teach here.

And a final huge thank you to our student ambassadors. We literally COULD NOT have run the event without the generous support of our current undergraduates who worked incredibly hard to welcome guests, give the student perspective on living and studying in Oxford, and answer hundreds of questions about the intricacies of our courses and the options available. Thank you Cordelia, Gabbie, Beca, Olivia, Sav, Leo, Maame, Adam, Harper, Leo and Lara. Between them we represented all six courses that fall under the classics umbrella and everyone had a bit of a hoarse voice from so much talking by 4pm on Thursday! Also thanks to Leo Kershaw who represented post graduate options and sent many visitors away with even more inspiration!

We are already looking forward to doing it again in September! More details here.
