Open Day - September 2022

Last Friday 16 September 2022 we were delighted to welcome several hundred prospective applicants into the Faculty of Classics.

Planned to coincide with the University of Oxford Open Days, the event mirrored our summer open days with events including:

  • Classics at Oxford Admissions Talk with Gail Trimble, School Liaison Officer
  • Q&A stands with current students and tutors
  • Taster Lectures:
    • Katherine Clarke - 'The Lively Landscape of Herodotus’ Histories’'
    • Barnaby Taylor - 'Virgil and the aesthetics of scale'

If you were a guest at our open day, thank you for coming! It is always so wonderful to meet the next generation of classicists and see your enthusiasm for our beloved subject.

Gratitude also to our wonderful speakers for giving everyone a taste of the things that can be studied here at Oxford.

More thanks to the tutors who joined in with our meet the tutors session.

Last but not least, a huge shout out to our student ambassadors. Our open days are totally reliant on our current undergraduates who really help paint a picture about what it is like to apply, study and above all live as a classicist. Thank you Amy, Beca, Sav, Katrina, Jakob, Milly, Izzi, Clementine, Chess and Sabrina. These 10 people created quite the buzz and managed to answer so many questions - not just on their own courses but about anything and everything to do with classics. Also thanks to Leo Kershaw who once again represented post graduate options and sent many visitors away with even more inspiration!

We are already looking forward to an even bigger event in March when we are hosting the Oxbridge Classics Open Day here in Oxford. More details here.
