The aim of this thesis is to explore the presence of the Etruscans in the poetry of the Augustan age, where our sources seem to indicate more engagement with elements belonging to the Etruscan realm, judging by the extant evidence, than the republican age, and arises from the absence, at the present time, of a comprehensive survey of the contemporary literary sources on the matter. My work will attempt to provide a comprehensive study of the references to Etruria and Etruscans in the poets of the Augustan age, trying to determine which factors contribute to this renewed interest and what form this interest assumes in each author, how Etruscan themes are elaborated (also taking into consideration the different personal backgrounds), and whether or not (and if so how) they contribute to the reconciliation of Rome with her Etruscan heritage.
