Holly Hunt

My research interests are focused on poetry of the Archaic and Classical ages. My MSt thesis considered how the abuse poets Archilochus and Hipponax instantiate and deviate from the typical figure of the quarrelling poet as can be abstracted from wider poetic traditions, and my DPhil continues my interest in poets behaving badly, turning to the parabases of Aristophanes, in which the poet frequently makes transgressive claims of poetic superiority. My research draws on the contemporary field of media psychology to reconsider the interaction between the comic and the political in the plays of Aristophanes.

My other interests include Plato, mystery rites and ancient Crete.
