I read for a BA and an MSt in Classics at Oriel College, and a DPhil at University College which I completed in 2012. I was a lecturer in Ancient Greek literature at Balliol and Trinity Colleges before moving to Winchester College where I was Head of Classics for several years, during which time I became a qualified teacher. 

Research Interests

My research interests are in Greek epic, tragedy and lyric poetry and the reception of Greek literature and I have published several articles in this field on aspects of gender, poetic authority and oral poetics (under the name Sarah J. Harden). including a piece forthcoming in 2023 entitled 'Breastmilk, Blood and Semen: Corruptions of Motherhood and Gender Fluid-ity in the Oresteia trilogy". I am currently preparing a book for publication by OUP entitled The Power of Performance: Embedded Songs in Greek Poetry. My second monograph will focus on epigenetic trauma in Greek and Roman Tragedy and its reception.

Teaching

I teach Early Greek Hexameter Poetry, Greek Tragedy, Greek Core and Hellenistic Poetry for Greats and Homer’s Iliad for Mods.  I also supervise Greek literature MSt Students and offer text-based Graduate Seminars in Greek Literature.
