Pergamum: the "Red Basilica"

Built during the 5th century AD, this basilica was later a mosque. It stands between the ancient city and the centre of modern Bergama physically as well as temporally. The red brick construction contrasts markedly with the white limestone and marble of the public buildings on the acropolis.
