MAMA X no.4: funerary monument for Tateis from Appia in Phrygia (scanned photograph from the Centre's Cox Archive)

The Centre is undertaking a long-term project to create a library of digitised images of Greek inscriptions, based in the first instance on material in its squeeze collection. Squeezes are digitised directly using pre-press flatbed scanners and made available on-line from the Centre's WWW server http://www.csad.ox.ac.uk/CSAD/Catalogue.html. By the end of Summer 2001, approximately two thirds of the Centre's squeeze collection had been scanned. A start has also been made, with the inscriptions in Monumenta Asiae Minoris Antiqua volume X, on digitising the Centre's extensive photographic archive http://www.csad.ox.ac.uk/MAMA

The imaging project is funded by an HRB Institutional Fellowship held by the Centre's Assistant Director Dr C V Crowther (October 1995-September 2003). The first four years of the Fellowship were funded directly by the HRB; the remaining four years are being funded by the University. During 2000-2001, the Committee for Research Projects provided grants to allow graduate assistants to be employed in scanning and cataloguing the epigraphical collections.
