Civilisation Mashed Up!

01-09-2014 15:19

Looking for a new angle on the Great War? This is the workshop for you!

Civilisation Smashed up is a Saturday afternoon, cross-curricular, enrichment workshop aimed at AS-level students. It uses the poetry of Wilfred Owen and E.E. Cummings to highlight the place of the Classics, class, and class resentment. We will look at both familiar and unfamiliar poems, which bring to life the war experience and social anger of the war poets.

This workshop can come to you at your school, for the convenience of your students and teachers. The workshop afternoon is suitable for 10-12 students studying any combination of Humanities A-levels. It is particularly aimed at those identified for Gifted & Talented programmes (or similar), and one of its purposes is to raise university aspirations. In keeping with its cross-curricular approach, the afternoon will help students to think about different University course options and how to choose the right course for them.

My name is Alison Rosenblitt and I will be running the workshop. I am a member of the Oxford Classics Faculty and you can find more about me from my personal webpage: http://users.ox.ac.uk/~wadh0494/

There is a small amount of workshop funding which will make it possible

to provide refreshments and to remunerate supervising teachers for their time.
