Dr Marguerite Ronin

I was trained in classics and archaeology at the University of Rennes (France). I received my doctorate in Roman history from the University of Nantes (France) and Université Laval (Canada). I subsequently spent two years at the Freie Universität in Berlin, as a post-doc researcher of the Excellence Cluster Topoi, with a specialisation in Roman law, and then received a Marie Curie grant from the European Commission.

Research Interests:

My current research is mainly focused on the study of the water management. During my Phd, I was mostly interested in the legal, administrative and institutional aspects of it, in rural as well as in urban contexts. I then turned my attention more specifically to the agriculture-related questions of irrigation and drainage. I tend to rely more heavily on sources from Spanish Peninsula and Northern Africa, but am also keen on broadening my field of study to other regions, especially Italy and Gaul. My other interests include the Late antiquity, how the rules and structures of the Empire remained in place and evolved at that time, and the Roman law, its spread and dissemination.
