Keble College’s Meet the Poet Series Presents A poetry reading by A. E. Stallings

A. E. Stallings is an American poet and translator of Latin and Greek who now lives in Athens, Greece. Her books of poetry include Archaic Smile (1999), which won the Richard Wilbur Award, Hapax (2006), which won the Poets’ Prize, and Olives (2012), which was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. She translated the Penguin Classics edition of Lucretius’s De Rerum Natura (2007), and she is currently at work on a verse translation of Hesiod’s Works and Days. Stallings studied Classics at the University of Georgia before earning her masters at Oxford in 1992. She has been awarded a Pushcart Prize, the Eunice Tietjens Prize, the Howard Nemerov Sonnet Award, the James Dickey Prize, and the Willis Barnestone Translation Prize, among others. In 2011, she received a MacArthur Foundation “Genius Grant” for her work on poetry and translation.
