Courses and Papers
DissertationYou are encouraged to offer a dissertation as one of your three options. A dissertation should be a maximum of 10,000 words long (including the footnotes but not the bibliography), and you decide on a subject in consultation with your Supervisor. The proposedtitle must be submitted to the Graduate Studies Committee in January and confirmed in April. The dissertation enables you to work in some depth on some subject that particularly interests you. This is particularly valuable if you are intending to go on and do further work in the same or a related area for a doctorate. Not all courses and papers are available in every year. The authoritative information about courses and papers can be found in the University's Examination Decrees and Regulations, published with changes each October; the version published in the October a student begins a course will be authoritative for the examinations which that student takes at the end of the course. © C@O 2008: Classics at Oxford, Faculty of Classics.
