Dr Christopher Mallan

I was raised in Australia where I received my BA and MPhil from the University of Queensland. I came to the UK in 2012 for my DPhil, which was conferred in 2015. Since then I have been the college Lecturer in Ancient History at St Benet’s Hall (2015-present) as well as a Titular Lecturer in Classics at Wadham College (2015-16).

Research Keywords:

Roman Historiography; Cassius Dio; Roman Imperial History; Dexippus; Reception of Roman History in Byzantium.

Research Interests:

The main body of my research falls into the category of Imperial Greek Historiography, although my teaching and research interests are diverse – extending from the late Republic to twelfth century Byzantium (with some gaps in between). My main research project at present is a Commentary on Books 57 and 58 of Cassius Dio’s Roman History which is under contract with OUP.
