Brasenose College and Classics Faculty Graduate Studentship

Brasenose College and the Classics Faculty propose to offer one Graduate Studentship in Classics (either in Classical Languages and Literature or in Greek and Roman History) for Home/EU applicants starting doctoral studies in October 2007. The scholarship will cover the the college fee (£2000) and a proportion (£2000) of the university fee at the Home/EU rate for the academic year 2007/8, but will not provide any maintenance funding.

Applications for the scholarship should be addressed in hard copy to Mrs. Anne Smith, Administrator, Stelios Ioannou School for Research in Classical and Byzantine Studies, 66 St. Giles’, Oxford OX1 3 LU (email:anne.smith@classics.ox.ac.uk) to reach her by 31 August, 2007. Applications should include:

1. The standard University application form (GAO2007), obtainable from the University Offices, Wellington Square, or from the Internet;

2. A curriculum vitae;

3. Three academic references, which should be sent by the referees by post or email directly to Mrs Smith by the closing date;

4. Transcripts of degree results at undergraduate and Master’s level;

4. A brief statement (not more than one A4 page) of the research to be undertaken for the doctorate;

5. Two pieces of written work on subjects relevant to candidate’s research.

Students of other colleges reading for the M.Phil or M.St and planning to go on to the doctorate will be required to migrate to Brasenose if successful. The same is true for external candidates who have already applied via the usual process.

The successful applicant will be asked to provide evidence of funding to cover maintenance costs and the difference in the fees chargeable for the first and subsequent years of the course. The award will be announced not later than 11 September, 2007.
