Q1. Are you more likely to get a place for graduate study at Oxford if you can guarantee to fund yourself if you have to, or if the board thinks your application is likely to secure funding?

Final acceptance, after an offer is made, is conditional on proof of adequate funding. The initial decision to make an offer of a place is taken on academic grounds, without a prior judgement as to the eventual likelihood of your securing funding.

Q2. What happens if I get a place at Oxford, but am unable to secure funding?

Unfortunately, those who cannot secure funding, and are unable to support themselves by other means, cannot be accepted.

Q3. What sources of graduate funding does Oxford provide? How can I find out deadlines for applications for scholarships and other grants?

Most colleges have a number of scholarships which can assist with the cost of study, though these are always highly competitive and may be restricted by subject area or country of origin. Details of some may appear on our scholarships page, and a more comprehensive list can be found in the University's Graduate Prospectus; the University Gazette announces deadlines during term time and also publishes a supplement at the beginning of the year which contains details of university prizes.
